SCOTT GERARD HOLDS THE INNINGS TOGETHER BUT BARNET BOWLERS GO ASTRAY

The Under 11s lost their first match of the season to Southgate Compton by 7 wickets with 5 overs to spare. Barnet got off to a disastrous start to their innings with Theo Staniscia-Singh being run out off the first ball without having faced a ball. Wickets tumbled and we were reeling at 9-4. SCOTT GERARD (25 not out) held the innings together and was still at the crease when the innings closed on 82-9, having batted for the entire 20 overs bar that first run out ball. Extras top-scored with 52.
Unfortunately, the Barnet bowlers also found it hard to avoid bowling wides and no-balls and 45 of the 50 extras conceded were courtesy of our bowlers. The best bowler was JACK FOLEY who took 1-6 in 3 overs. Southgate Compton secured a comfortable win by 7 wickets. Our other wicket-takers were THEO and SCOTT.

GOODFELLOW TON POWERS UNDER 11's TO BIG WIN OVER COCKFOSTERS

Michael Goodfellow The watching parents and friends were treated to the spectacle of a fine innings by Barnet's MICHAEL GOODFELLOW who scored an unbeaten 102 completing his century in the final over and carrying his bat throughout the 20 over innings. He played his shots all round the wicket including some memorable straight drives. His innings included sixteen 4s and one 6. He was very severe on anything short or wide. A fine performance from a very promising player. Barnet totalled 157-4 and the Barnet top order batsmen wisely gave Michael as much of the strike as possible. RAVI SANGHANI (7 not out) gave good support in an unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 67 runs.
All the Barnet bowlers were given a couple of overs each and in the main, they bowled a much better line and length and as a result there were many wicket takers : DAIYAAN GHANI and SANDY KIDDLE took 2 wickets each, while SCOTT GERARD, MARCO TIMANTI, RAVI SANGHANI, and SAAGAR PATEL all chipped in with 1 wicket each as Cockfosters were heavily beaten by 111 runs.
Hopefully the Under 11's can build on this win and put a good run together.
They play Southgate away on Wednesday - Watch this space !

BARNET BOWLING TOO STRONG FOR SOUTHGATE COMPTON

Barnet Under 11s avenged an early-season defeat by Southgate Compton to win comfortably by 61 runs. The Barnet bowling has greatly improved in the five weeks since the last encounter with S. Compton on 4th May. Indeed, six bowlers shared the wickets and the scoring rate was kept down to about 2.5 runs per over.
Barnet won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 115-4 with the main contributions coming from MATTHEW SANDERS (21), SCOTT GERARD (18 not out), and MICHAEL GOODFELLOW (14). Some fine accurate bowling by MICHAEL (1-2), SCOTT (2-6) and RAVI SANGHANI (2-1) had the opposition reeling at 7-5. In the end they did well to last till the 20th over when SCOTT wrapped up the innings at 54 all out. The other wicket takers with one each were: SANDY KIDDLE, DAIYAAN GHANI and MARCO TIMANTI.

BARNET ON TOP IN ALL DEPARTMENTS

A good performance by Barnet U11s saw them complete 'the double' against Southgate U11s at Underhill on Sunday. Southgate batted first, and although they played some good shots, they lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 69 with 5 overs remaining unused. All the Barnet bowlers bowled well. PREVIN THISANAYAGAM (1-10) struck first bowling Southgate opener Gandhi for a duck. The wickets continued to fall courtesy of RAHUL AMIN (2-6), SCOTT GERARD (2-7), THEO STANISCIA-SINGH (1-6), SANDY KIDDLE (1-8), MARCO TIMANTI (1-8) and 2 run outs.

THEO (31), with solid support from SANDY (8 n.o.), dominated the Barnet reply and the pair put on an opening partnership of 51 in just over 9 overs to take the game away from Southgate. RAVI SANGHANI (8 n.o.), batting at no.3, then rounded off the match with 2 well struck fours.

UNDER 11 FRIENDLY ??

BARNET V FINCHLEY (a)

Finchley win by hook or by crook

This was meant to be a friendly match at the end of the competitive season, but the antics of the home umpire/manager marred the day for the Barnet team, coaches and parents. The fact that the aforementioned umpire continually coached his side during the game, even between deliveries was not really too much to worry about (although the Finchley scorer lady found it rather embarrassing). He coached his own son during the boy's innings with great intensity. All this was just a distraction to the main event: Barnet scored 129-2 in their 20 overs with ADAM ROSSINGTON (retired 57 not out) and ROBERT WINSLEY (25) the main contributors. The Barnet innings went smoothly enough. However when Finchley batted, extra balls were frequently added to overs and the scorers protests dissmissed. Finchley required 6 to win off last over umpired by you know who. 6 balls were bowled for 4 runs. The umpire carried on playing. A wide was signalled to a ball that just missed leg stump and then the winning run came off the extra ball for the wide and the ecstatic Finchley boys invaded the pitch. I must have missed a ball, because looking at the scorebook after the game, There were in fact 9 balls in that final over with only 1 wide. How can we teach chidren values when they have to witness adults behaving in this way. Perhaps Mr. Umpire just got carried away with the excitement of it all. You decide !
For the record DIAYAAN GHANI took 3-12 and was the pick of the bowling.

ALREADY CHAMPIONS, BARNET CELEBRATE WITH LAST OVER WIN

A glance at the league table, pinned up on the Club noticeboard, confirmed that the Barnet Under 11s had already won their area league. Nevertheless, a determined team effort was needed to beat Southgate Adelaide and complete the league season in winning style.
An early wicket for RAVI SANGHANI (1-9) and a run out put the visitors under pressure. They then recovered with a sensible stand of 52 against some tidy Barnet bowling which kept the run rate down to 4 an over. MARCO TIMANTI's 2 overs cost just 4 runs. The expected acceleration, however, was curtailed by more good bowling and wickets for SCOTT GERARD (2-12 off 4 overs), ROBERT WINSLEY (1-12), and SAAGAR PATEL (1-11). Southgate Adelaide finished on 84-6.
This was to prove a tough total for Barnet to reach. Barnet made a solid start with THEO STANISCIA-SINGH (15), RAVI (5) and DAIYAAN GHANI (10) helped by enough extras to get within sight of victory. However, with 19 required off the last 3 overs, and two new batsmen at the crease there were some jitters in the Barnet camp, but SCOTT (9 n.o.) taking a few risks, and supported by MATTHEW SANDERS (3 n.o.) saw Barnet home with 3 balls to spare.
WELL DONE TO ALL THE UNDER 11s SQUAD who now go on to the play-offs.
