17th May 2004 - v Edmonton - Report by Ian Laney

Barnet 112-4
Edmonton 50 all out

BARNET WON BY 62 RUNS

Wow ! Barnet Under 10s on fire as they cruise to win their second game in a week
This was a totally different game from Mill Hill Village (see below) as Barnet dominated batting, bowling, and fielding.

After losing the toss and put in to bat, Barnet went out determined to improve on their total from Mill Hiil Village. Opening batsman & captain GEORGE CHARLTON defended off the 1st over as Edmonton's opening bowler bowled very well. Quick running between the wickets got Barnet off to a flying start until a top class in-swinging yorker bowled out young Jake Sittampalam who had yet to score. Despite the early wicket, heads stayed up as young DHARMARAJ hit two boundaries followed by GEORGE's big hit through the covers. Unfortunately, three wickets fell inside two overs and it looked as though Barnet were in trouble. But once again with young superstar ROWAN FREAKE hitting 6 boundaries and reaching 34 and George 24 both retired and with all the remaining Barnet batsmen batting sensibly with clever running between the wickets, Barnet ended up with a massive 112 runs.

When entering the field heads higher than ever, it was up to the bowlers. Within the first 8 overs bowling from CONNOR, DREW, JAMES and ROWAN FREAKE saw Edmonton 13 for 2 with only 6 of those runs coming from the bat. Fielding was at its best as nothing got past Barnet in the field and this showed as they took 3 catches. With pace bowling from captain George, unplayable leggy's from young JAKE, and the most accurate bowling from NATHANIEL JACKSON, Barnet were unstoppable. With Edmonton 6 wickets down, Barnet kept fighting with young BENEDICT taking 3 wickets in one over and Edmonton only reaching 50 runs all out
Well done Barnet Under 10s

12th May 2004 - v Mill Hill Village - Report by Ian Laney

Mill Hill Village 80-4
Barnet 81-5

BARNET WON BY 5 WICKETS

Barnet's first game of the season started with a win.
Mill Hill Village batted first with both teams suffering from the rain in the past 2 weeks, training had been impossible and it showed in our bowling and fielding with 2 runs for a wide we gave away 48 runs out of 80, but still ROWAN FREAKE bowled 3 overs taking 2 for 7, and our new wicketkeeper, 7 year-old HARRY REYNOLDS only let 1 bye through.

Barnet went in to bat needing a modest 81 to win. GEORGE CHARLTON and JAKE SITTAMPALAM put on 24 for the first wicket which was a good start, but Mill Hill had the wide bug and we did not lose another wicket until the 15th over - needing 12 from 5 overs. It looked easy but then the runs started to dry up and the wickets started to fall with 5 needed off the last over with DHARAMARAJ and NATHANIEL at the crease. By the 5th ball the game was tied. The last ball was bowled, it hit Nathaniel's pad and dropped down by his feet but with Dharamaraj charging down the wicket yelling 'YES' they scrambled a leg bye to win the match.
