NORTH MIDDLESEX 95 ALL OUT : BARNET B's 96-3: WE WON BY 7 WICKETS
North Middlesex are regarded as one of the strongest colts sides in the London Area and we played at the top of our game to win in a thrilling finish. George Charlton (34 retired not out) and Jake Williams (18 not out) sealed a fine win with somew imperious striking of the ball.
NORTH LONDON 74-5: BARNET B's 75-3: BARNET WON BY 7 WICKETS.
Good accurate bowling was the order of the day with all 5 bowlers recording good stats. Jake's 2 overs went for 14 runs: George had an excellent return of 0-11 : Edward went for only 18 runs and took a wicket: Liam went for 21 but the pick of the bunch was Anay with 1-8 in his 2 overs. Fine hitting by our top 3 batsmen - George (14): Jake (22) and Drew (18 not out) saw us home with nearly 3 overs to spare.
HIGHGATE 73-5: BARNET B's 75-4. BARNET WON BY 6 WICKETS.
This was the closest match of the day against probably the weakest side that we played. I think the boys were over confident and after losing early wickets we had to rely on Drew (29 not out) to see us home. Jake also batted well for his 17. Earlier(bowling) Liam went for only 4 runs (incredible in a competition like this), George only 12 runs, Edward 15 runs and Anay 16.
We have every chance of winning the competition but still need to beat both Cockfosters and Hornsey on 22nd March.
Well done everybody. It was a real team effort. Trevor
BARNET B'S CRICKET CLUB

President: Geoff Norris
FROM TREVOR CHAMBERS:-
It's just over 2 months until the start of the season, and our first outdoor colts' training session will be held in the clubhouse on Friday 25th April at 6.30 pm. I wanted to write with the latest news about the club and to give you more details about registering your child as a member of the Barnet B Colts for the coming year.
Information For Season 2008
The cost for the 2008 season is £70 for boys and £50 for girls. If you have more than one child wishing to join the club, there is a reduction for additional children i.e. if you have 2 boys the cost will be £130 and if you have a boy and a girl will be £120 .
The club are always delighted to welcome members old and new, but to help us organise the children into teams in readiness for the start of the season, it's really important that you complete the registration form at the end of this letter and return it to me with your payment before 14th March. Last season we had a large number of boys and girls in the 8 - 15 year age bracket, so it is important that parents of children that age return their registration form and cheque quickly if they want to be sure of reserving a place.
Cheques should be made payable to Barclays Cricket Club (this is because we merged with Barclays in 2007) and returned to: Trevor Chambers, 37 The Fairway, New Barnet, Herts., EN5 1HH.
Registration Evening: Friday 4th April 2008.
The coaches and I are looking forward to meeting you at our club registration evening, which will be on Friday 4th April 2008 at 6.30 PM in the Durham Suite (at the rear of the football club). Entrance to the suite is via the car park at the rear of the club, accessed by driving down the side of the football club in Westcombe Drive, or by walking in front of the cricket pavillion and into the football club.
The purpose of the evening is for officers of the club and coaches to introduce themselves to parents, provide information about the club and offers parents and children the opportunity to ask questions. We will also discuss what we expect from the colts (in terms of behaviour etc) and provide further details about our Friday evening coaching sessions, about the equipment provided by the club and our end of season awards ceremony.
It is important that all parents attend the registration evening and that any outstanding payments are made on this date.
Cricket in 2008
We will again be running teams in the Middlesex East Area colts League for colts aged under 9, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 17. We also have a thriving girls team and will be arranging some girls' fixtures against other clubs. This enables all boys and girls aged 7 and above to play competitive cricket against other clubs, as well as enjoying the coaching sessions where they develop their skills every Friday evening, through until the end of July. All this for just £70 for biys and £50 for girls.
Colts' Website and E-Mail Addresses
Michael Gerard has kindly manages a web site for the colts www.barnetbscolts.com. He has already put all of the 2008 colts' fixtures on to the site, so please log on if you want an early sight of them. Also if you have any interesting snippets of information relating to matches, or match day photos, please let Michael know so that he can include them on the web site. His email address is email@example.com. Could I also draw parents' attention to the play-cricket website where you will find details about senior matches and other important information about the club. This website address is still barnetbs.play-cricket.com.
In order for us to communicate with parents more effectively, please let me have your e-mail address when completing the registration form for your son/daughter. It makes communicating much easier - reduces the need for stamps and envelopes, photocopying, and it is also much cheaper and quicker.
We do not provide personal cloting such as trousers, sweaters, shoes etc. for the colts, however we do encourage boys and girls to come to their coaching sessions properly kitted out in 'whites'. If/when your son or daughter is selected to play in a competitive match we certainly will insist on correct clothing being worn. We hope to have bespoke kit (cricket shirt/trousers with the club logo and colours) available for you to buy before the start of the season so please do not buy any clothing until I get in touch with you again about this. Personally I am very keen to see all our teams wearing the club cricket kit, not only will our colts look very smart, it also helps give everybody a feeling of pride and achievement when they play against other clubs.
To note: It is also important that each boy has his own box when playing. Although boxes are not necessarily needed during the coaching sessions, they will be required if your son is selected to play in a match. He will not be allowed to play if he does not have a box. It is also important that your son wears the correct sort of underpants, when using the box. Boxer shorts do not provide the support required to keep a box in place, and could result in an accident due to lack of protection.
The club provides all playing equipment such as balls, bats, pads, stumps, helmets, gloves etc.
Please make sure that you mark all of your child's personal belongings clearly. You would be amazed at the amount of personal equipment that is left behind in the changing room.
All children must wear a helmet when batting in a league or cup match. He/she will not be allowed to bat without a helmet. You can, of course, buy your child a helmet but the club does provide these.
Please note that we recommend that you pay a visit to Brigg Sports at the end of Queens Road off Wood Street to see their range of cricket equipment. They are in the small industrial park at the end of the road right next to Queen Elizabeth Boy' School. Their telephone number is 020-8449 4765. If you do buy anything please mention that you were recommended by the cricket club as we get discount on some of our bulk purchases.
Please do not hesitate to contact me on 020 8449 6297 if you have any queries you want to discuss before the start of the season. Hope to see you on Friday 4th April for the registration evening.
